I start my blog off with my poem about a love that never dies…
and then…
Halloween Treats to enjoy with your special love (or company)
My Love
When the floor boards squeak
And a cool breeze brushes your check
Know that I am here
Lights dim and glow
Is my sign to you
I feel your warmth
I take your cue
You glance at the shadow I make
As I float by
Waves of desire
A heavy sigh
A sweet whisper of hope
I place near your ear
A desire of longing
To be with you again dear
Loving you from afar
A spirit I’d be
But nevertheless
I know you feel me
You are my love
As always before
Here and forever more…

Smoky, Hot, Scotch Apple Cider Recipe (perfect for the 2 of you)
Don’t let smoky Scotch scare you away from this drink—we use just a dash of the peaty stuff in this warming cup of cider. The bulk of the booze is a not-so-peaty whisky, to keep the overall drink balanced.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
- 1 (1-by-2-inch) lemon peel
- 2 tablespoons single-malt, not-heavily-peated Scotch whisky, such as Glenlivet
- 1/4 teaspoon heavily peated Scotch whisky, such as Laphroaig
- 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
INSTRUCTIONS
- Heat the apple cider, honey, cinnamon stick, and lemon peel in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the honey has melted and the cinnamon is fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Turn off the heat, add both Scotches and the lemon juice, and stir to combine. Transfer to a heatproof glass and garnish with the cinnamon stick and lemon peel.

Shrunken Heads in Cider
Ingredients
• 2 cups lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons coarse salt
• 8 large Granny Smith apples
• 32 whole cloves
• 2 gallons apple cider
• 2 (12-ounce) cans frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
• 2 cups spiced rum (optional)
Directions
1. Step Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside. In a medium bowl, mix together lemon juice and salt; set aside.
2. Step Peel apples and cut each in half through the stem; remove seeds and core. Using a sharp paring knife, carve a face, as desired, on the rounded side of each apple half. Place apples in lemon mixture for one minute; transfer to paper towels to drain.
3. Step Place apples, face-side up on prepared baking sheet and transfer to oven. Let bake until apples are dry and begin to brown around the edges, about 90 minutes. Remove apples from baking sheets and press cloves into the “eye” sockets.
4. Step Combine cider, lemonade, and rum (if using) in a large punchbowl; float shrunken heads on top.
